Members of the Los Angeles Police Department Ice Hockey Team strapped on their skates to teach 20 kids from the Union Rescue Mission how to skate on Thursday, Dec. 29, at the LA Kings Holiday Ice facility at LA Live.

Olympic figure skater Tai Babilonia and members of the LA Kings Ice Crew scooted onto the ice to offer help, too.

Volunteers, including LAPD Assistant Chief Robert Marin, said such lighthearted events can help lift the spirits of kids experiencing homelessness.
