Following a number of seasons playing with injuries, the 31-year-old went under the knife earlier this year to have a hip resurfacing operation in an attempt to continue his tennis career and improve his day-to-day life.

The three-time grand slam champion and former world No.1 said in March that he was now “pain-free” after his hip surgery and earlier this month he picked up a tennis racket again by hitting some balls against a brick wall.

With progress going well Murray has also been able to enjoy other activities. The Scot revealed that he had not played a round of golf for six years but he gave the “thumbs up” after 18 holes.

Two-time Wimbledon champion Murray said on Instagram: “Played my first round of golf for 6 years yesterday… pain free. Hip resurfacing = (thumbs up).”

His mother, Judy Murray, also shared a video of her son hitting the fairways. Writing on Twitter Judy Murray said he could have been inspired by Tiger Woods’s comeback and memorable victory at The Masters on Sunday.
