Dodgers erupt for 8 runs in eighth inning to rout Reds

THE GAME: Alex Verdugo drove in the first two runs with a bases-loaded single during an eight-run rally in the eighth inning as the Dodgers came from behind to beat the Cincinnati Reds 8-1 on Friday night at Goodyear Ballpark in Goodyear, Ariz.

PITCHING REPORT: Left-hander Julio Urias pitched three scoreless innings, allowing one hit and walking one. In nine innings this spring, Urias has retired 26 of 30 batters faced, nine on strikeouts. … Reliever Kevin Quackenbush gave up one run in his two innings thanks to a pair of former Dodgers. Yasiel Puig hit a two-out double then scored on a single by Jose Peraza. … Bullpen candidate Yimi Garcia pitched a perfect inning. He has allowed four hits and a walk while striking out nine in seven scoreless innings this spring.

HITTING REPORT: Brad Miller’s leadoff single in the second inning was the Dodgers’ only hit through the first seven innings. … Ezequiel Carrera led off the eighth with a bunt single. After two walks loaded the bases with one out, Verdugo came through with the go-ahead hit. Jeter Downs (acquired from the Reds organization this winter) followed with an RBI single and Errol Robinson drew a bases-loaded walk. Paulo Orlando crushed a grand slam off Reds lefty Brandon Finnegan to cap the scoring burst. … The Dodgers struck out 15 times against Tanner Roark and four Reds relievers.

DEFENSE REPORT: Edwin Rios has played mostly the corner infield spots during his minor-league career. But he was in left field Friday night. He got a late break but made a nice tumbling catch on a slicing fly ball by Joey Votto to end the third inning.
