In fantasy football, tight ends can sometimes mean the difference between a win and a loss. Jimmy Graham disappointed owners in his fantasy debut, while tight ends Will Dissler and Jared Cook impressed. Let’s review the ten best tight ends for week 2 of the fantasy football season.
1. New England Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski
As long as he’s healthy, Gronkowski is the top tight end automatically every single week. He registered seven catches for 123 receiving yards and one touchdown against the Houston Texans. This week, he’ll play against a Jaguars defense that the Patriots will need to throw against.
2. Washington Redskins TE Jordan Reed
The Redskins tight end doesn’t seem to have lost a step with Alex Smith at quarterback. Reed caught four passes for 48 receiving yards and a touchdown against the Arizona Cardinals. He’s still a huge red zone target and remains a top-five fantasy tight end when he’s healthy.
3. Green Bay Packers TE Jimmy Graham
Last week, Graham was a total disappointment, catching just two passes for eight receiving yards. Part of that can be attributed to Rodgers’ injury, but that performance has to discourage fantasy owners. Fortunately, Graham gets to play against a Vikings defense in week 2 that struggles to cover tight ends.
4. Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce
Kelce was even worse than Graham in week 1, catching just one pass for six receiving yards against the Chargers. Don’t let that discourage you from starting Kelce in week 2 against the Steelers, who will likely key on Tyreek Hill in their week 2 matchup.
5. Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz
The Eagles tight end had ten targets in week 1, highest among all tight ends except for Jared Cook. He only managed to catch five passes for 48 receiving yards, but he’s clearly going to be a huge part of the Eagles offense. Start him with confidence against the Buccaneers in week 2.
6. Oakland Raiders TE Jared Cook
It’s hard to believe that Cook can repeat his nine catch 180-yard performance against the Denver Broncos, but fantasy owners would be happy with half of that production in week 2. It doesn’t hurt that the Broncos just allowed over 100 yards and a touchdown to unknown tight end Will Dissly.
7. San Francisco 49ers TE George Kittle
The 49ers tight end seems to be the most reliable receiving weapon on the roster, especially after Marquise Goodwin went down with an injury. …read more
