The Big Bang Theory spin-off Young Sheldon will air on E4 from 2018, it has been confirmed.
Channel 4 last year announced that Young Sheldon, The Big Bang Theory prequel which follows the life of a 9-year-old Sheldon Cooper as he struggles to be understood by his family, classmates and neighbours, will be coming to E4 in 2018.
The 13 part highly anticipated series stars Iain Armitage (Big Little Lies), Zoe Perry (Scandal, The Family, Grey’s Anatomy), Lance Barber (The Comeback, Black-ish, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), Annie Potts (GCB, Designing Women, Love & War) Montana Jordan and Raegan Revord (Modern Family, Grace and Frankie).
Jim Parsons (The Big Bang Theory, The Normal Heart) narrates as Adult Sheldon.
Young Sheldon will start on E4 on Thursday, February 22 at 8:30PM, it has been announced.
For 9-year-old Sheldon Cooper, it isn’t easy growing up in East Texas. Being a once-in-a generation mind capable of advanced mathematics and science isn’t always helpful in a land where church and football are king.
And while the vulnerable, gifted and somewhat naïve young Sheldon deals with the world, his very normal family must find a way to deal with him!
Speaking about casting Iain as his Big Bang Theory charater’s younger self, Jim Parsons told Jimmy Kimmel Live! recently: “They wrote the most trial-by-fire, two-page monologue and all these kids were coming in with it and they were all really good.
“But Iain, when his tape came in, it was mind-blowing and I thought, ‘He looks really young but he must be 13 to be able to do this’ – but he was 8.
“He is such a man-child. He thinks like a man. He’s fantastic. I didn’t think I was very good with kids but I’m fine with him. He’s such a sweet kid, too.”
The spin-off, from the makers of the main show, is sure to be a hit for E4.
Series 10 of The Big Bang Theory helped the channel to more than double its slot average with E4’s biggest ratings of the year.
