Canada’s Bloemen wins silver medal in 5,000-metre speed skating

Canadian Ted-Jan Bloemen won silver in 5,000-metre speed skating in Pyeonchang, his first-ever Olympic medal.

Sven Kramer of The Netherlands captured the gold with an Olympic record time while Norway’s Sverre Lunde Pedersen won bronze.

Bloemen also joined elite company. He’s only the second Canadian male speed skater to win an Olympic medal in the 5,000-metre event. Willy Logan was the first back in 1932.

This is Canada’s third medal of these Olympic Winter Games. Max Parrot and Mark McMorris captured silver and bronze, respectively, in men’s slopestyle on Saturday night.
