WHL Roundup: Halbgewachs, Howden lead Warriors over Oil Kings

MOOSE JAW, Sask. — Jayden Halbgewachs and Brett Howden each had three goals and two assists as the league-leading Moose Jaw Warriors beat the Edmonton Oil Kings 8-2 on Friday in Western Hockey League action.

Branden Klatt and Justin Almeida also scored for the Warriors (35-6-3), who are 9-0-1 in their last 10 outings. Ryan Peckford chipped in with three helpers.

Colton Kehler scored both goals for the Oil Kings (12-25-6).

Adam Evanoff turned away 17 shots for the win. Todd Scott combined with Josh Dechaine for 31 saves in a losing cause.

Moose Jaw went 0 for 2 on the power play while Edmonton went 0 for 3 with the man advantage.


PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. — Stuart Skinner made 29 saves as Swift Current blanked the Raiders.

Glenn Gawdin scored twice while Kaden Elder and Colby Sissons had the others for the Broncos (30-10-3).

Ian Scott stopped 21-of-24 shots for Prince Albert (15-19-8).


REGINA — Ryan Kubic made 47 saves and Cameron Hebig scored the go-ahead goal at 3:48 of the third period to lift the Pats over Medicine Hat.

Josh Mahura and Sam Steel also scored for Regina (22-19-4).

Mark Rassell replied for the Tigers (23-17-3). Jordan Hollett kicked out 28-of-30 shots in defeat.


BRANDON, Man. — Logan Thompson turned away 28 as the Wheat Kings handed Calgary its third loss in a row.

Caiden Daley, Zach Wytinck, Connor Gutenberg and Linden McCorrister supplied the offence for Brandon (28-12-2).

Vladislav Yeryomenko was the lone scorer for the Hitmen (13-24-6). Nick Schneider made 36 saves in a losing cause.


RED DEER, Alta. — Logan Barlage scored twice in the third period as Lethbridge won to stretch the last-place Rebels’ losing streak to 10 games.
