The Clean Cut: High school football team scores 19 points in final minute to win game

SALT LAKE CITY — Think of the film “Hoosier,” and that’ll give you an idea as to how Maple Grove High School’s football game came to a thrilling end Friday, Nov. 9.

With about a minute left in the game, Maple Grove, a 6A football team in Minnesota, was down by 17 points, trailing 27-10. But thanks to catches from Joe Raymon and two recovered onside kicks, the team was able to pull off the unthinkable, scoring 19 points in the last minute to win the game, 29-27.

“When the Patriots played the Falcons last year, I mean, that’s a big win you think of right away,” Raymon said. “But I mean, kind of what happened last night, actually being a part of it, it feels like something different than I’ve ever seen before.”

Head coach Matt Lombardi added, “I’ve been to 40 years of games and I’ve never seen anything like that.”
