An American woman, her Canadian husband and their three children have been rescued from their captors almost five years since being taken hostage by members of the Taliban-affiliated Haqqani Network in Afghanistan.
Caitlan Coleman, 31, and her husband, Joshua Boyle, 33, were kidnapped by the group in 2012 while traveling as tourists. Coleman was pregnant at the time of the kidnapping, and the couple have since had two more children while they were detained.
“In the initial hours after their release, the family was still in Pakistan as arrangements were being made to return them to either the US or Canada,” CNN says.
